Tight lines with Fleet Lions (2005)

Tight lines were the order of the day for the Fleet Lions annual fishing competition held on Sunday the 17th of April in conjunction with Farnborough & District Angling Society at Shawfield Lakes, Ash.

Bob Lane won the competition with a weight of 19lbs 8oz, with Rob Hall netting 17lbs 12oz and Dan Carey, last year's winner, netting 8lbs 12oz.

Gordon Edmonds, President of Fleet Lions, presented the prizes in a short ceremony after the weighing in and accepted £170 raised for Lions local charities.

The winner of the Fishing Competition takes home the Fleet Lions Challenge Bowl for a year. First, second and third prize winners are presented with a shield.

Members of Farnborough and District Angling Society make a concerted effort to enjoy their sport with minimum discomfort to the fish. All of the fish are caught on barb-less hooks and are kept in large hooped nets suspended in the water during the competition. Immediately the competition ends, the fish at each peg are officially weighed and then returned safely to the waters.

2004 Lion President Graham Drayton presenting the 2004 winner, Dan Carey of the Farnborough and District Angling Society, with the Fleet Lions Challenge Bowl after he won the competition with a weight of 21 lbs 12 oz.
